Dr. Vaughn joined HOAF in 2008 from Charlottesville, Virginia. He has a special interest in breast cancer, lung cancer, and lymphoma and values his interactions with each of his oncology patients. With each patient he treats, he keeps his professional motto in mind:

“Each one of my patients has a rich, full life outside of their disease. The secret for taking great care of a patient lies in caring for the person inside. I tailor treatment and care to work for each individual.”

During his career, Dr. Vaughn has been a guest presenter at numerous conferences, lending his expertise on the current approaches in cancer therapy, especially his enthusiasm to adopt new targeted and immunologic therapies to continue the advancement of quality personalized oncology care.

Boardcertified in medical oncology and hematology, Dr. Vaughn earned a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed a residency at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Dr. Vaughn has been affiliated with several professional medical organizations, including the Division of Hematology & Oncology-University of Virginia School of Medicine, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society of Hematology. He continues to serve an active role in the medical community as a VAHO board member, Institutional Review Board (IRB),  board member of YMCA, and Malignant Hematology Service Chair at Mary Washington Hospital. Also close to his heart is being the PI of clinical trials. 

When he’s not working, Dr. Vaughn enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. His hobbies include playing golf, traveling, pickleball, and playing bass guitar. He also hosts the HOAF podcast, Cancer Shop Talk: Behind the Diagnosis with Dr. Vaughn. Every month he brings in patients, caregivers, and subject-matter experts who turn down the fear and turn up the understanding around a cancer diagnosis. Listen Here.
