What is Chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy is the treatment of disease using chemicals that have a specific toxic effect on the disease-producing cells.

Prior to initiating chemotherapy, you’ll meet with your medical oncologist for a consultation, followed by a financial counseling appointment, and treatment education session with your advanced practice provider.

During your financial counseling session, you’ll meet with a financial counselor who will review any financial concerns you may have.

During your treatment education session, your advanced practice provider will review your treatment in more detail, including expected side effects, possible adverse effects, required supportive medications, and your treatment schedule. Please plan to spend 45 minutes to an hour during your treatment education session. You will receive a full tour of our facility and meet your care team. Any necessary testing prior to chemotherapy will be coordinated with your care team.

We offer beverages and light refreshments, but please feel free to bring any additional snacks or meals needed for a long day of treatment. We provide tablets with Internet access, entertainment, and cancer information. However, in order to respect each patient’s privacy and individual desires for treatment, we do not have televisions in our treatment areas.
