Dr. Charles L. Maurer

Hematology & Oncology Specialist

Dr. Maurer serves as president of HOAF and began practicing in Fredericksburg in 2000. Along with his extensive background, he is highly regarded for his compassion and interaction with his patients. His philosophy in treating his patients is rooted in the importance of communication:

“Our commitment is to provide the highest quality of care, close to home, in a warm and friendly environment. It’s critical to have patients and their families be an active part of the evaluation and treatment process. Communication is essential to successful care.”

Dr. Maurer is board certified in medical oncology, and hematology.  In addition to his clinical and administrative work at HOAF, he serves as the Mary Washington Cancer Committee Chairman and Director of the Mary Washington Oncology Executive Committee.

Dr. Maurer received his Doctor of Medicine degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse, in Syracuse, New York and completed his fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.

When not working, Dr. Maurer enjoys running, hiking, and gardening. After hours, he can often be found at one of his children’s Scout events or fencing tournaments. He serves as the charter organizing representative for Troop 170. Dr. Maurer and his wife enjoy studying local history and recently restored a historic home and property in the area.
