Dr. Lisa Jackson Simmons, MD
Hematology & Oncology Specialist
Dr. Simmons brings a world of experience to HOAF –because her life has literally taken her across the globe. One of her many roles as a healthcare specialist led her to Cambodia, where she served as a physician for the US Embassy.
With board certifications in both medical oncology and internal medicine, Dr. Simmons specializes in cancers of the breast. She earned both her BS in Chemistry and her Doctor of Medicine from University of Missouri-Columbia, and she completed her internship, residency in Internal Medicine and her Oncology Fellowship at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic. “I have worked in Oncology since I was a high school nursing assistant. While my education has expanded my commitment to my patients has never wavered. I understand that they each have unique needs, and work with a dedicated care team to ensure they can keep as much of their daily routines as possible while undergoing treatment.”
Along with her appointment in Cambodia, Dr. Simmons has served as a physician in a number of medical centers in Iowa, Missouri, Virginia and Maryland. And throughout her almost 20 years in medicine, she has also managed to raise four children. In those rare moments when she’s not helping patients or supervising homework, she escapes on solo hikes on the Appalachian Trail.
