Dr. Matthew T. Whitehurst
Hematology & Oncology Specialist
Dr. Whitehurst joined HOAF in 2015 from the respected H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. He delivers patient-centered, evidence-based cancer care to many patients presenting with complex health issues and carefully addresses each of his patient’s needs with efficiency and care. Dr. Whitehurst has contributed to numerous prospective, retrospective, and pilot research endeavors and is always in tune with the newest treatment options and advances in cancer care.

Dr. Whitehurst has authored several peer-reviewed articles and research abstracts and is a proud member of highly regarded professional organizations, including the Society of Hematologic Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Whitehurst is board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his postdoctoral training at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, Dr. Whitehurst has lent his time as a volunteer, embarking on a mission to Jamaica where he treated a variety of acute illnesses to the underserved population of Port Maria, Jamaica.
Having been raised in Maryland and trained at the University of Maryland, he is excited to return to the area to continue his career and raise his family. He looks forward to establishing lasting relationships with his patients and providing a high level of personalized care. When not working, Dr. Whitehurst can be found spending time with his wife and three young children. He enjoys running, biking, skiing, listening to music, and watching the Baltimore Ravens play.
