Elizabeth Stanford

Physician Assistant

“It takes a special kind of person to do this work. We meet people at one of the most difficult points of their lives and we take our responsibility very seriously. When other doctors have given up on a patient, they come to us. I think that says it all.”

Elizabeth M. Stanford joined HOAF in 2015, after previously working in inpatient hematology-oncology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth earned her BS degree in Health Sciences as well as her MS degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Duquesne University. Elizabeth is a board-certified physician assistant who takes great pride in providing quality care to patients and their families while assisting the physician in all aspects of care. She is committed to ensuring that each patient leaves every appointment feeling comfortable with their treatment plan and with all their questions answered.

Elizabeth is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and holds a Physician Assistant license in Pennsylvania and Virginia. She enjoys the responsibility that comes with her role as a PA, from evaluating critically ill patients with hematology and oncology diagnoses to educating patients on diagnosis, treatment-related side effects, prognosis, nutrition, and medications.

Since joining HOAF, Elizabeth has been proud to be part of the team.

“A wise person once said, ‘Your illness does not define you, your strength and courage does.’ Oncology patients are truly an inspiration; they are facing one of the most challenging times of their lives, both emotionally and physically, and are able to handle the situation with grace, appreciation and determination. Our patients are by far the most rewarding part of working in oncology, and I am blessed to help care for these individuals along with the entire HOAF team, each and every day.”

Elizabeth recently moved back to the area to be closer to her family. She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors with her husband and two German Shepherds.
